Updates, Upcoming Stuff and Anime

First of all, I do have to thank everyone for visiting my blog from those of you who are fans of my weekly video review series ‘Actar’s Reviews’ to those of you are just a visiting fellow Okaku. It really means a lot to me and I do appreciate your viewership, support, encouragement and comments.

So on to the main issue at hand.

The year is drawing to a close (well kinda) and it is that time of the year when exams are right around the corner. Thus, I have been busy studying MATH, PHYSICS, ECONOMICS and LITERATURE which I probably won’t need later on in life. But I digress. (^.^;)

These things have really been keeping me occupied and all the free time I have is dedicated to keeping up with weekly Anime releases, playing SUPER ROBOT WARS MX

on my PSP and of course, trying to find ways to earn enough cash to keep the reviews going. (^.^)

So, that’s basically my excu… reason for not blogging as often as I would like. There are a ton of stuff, like my opinions on issues and events and of course reviews, that I actually plan on posting and will definitely do so after my exams.

Shameimaru Aya

Wonder how many people actually know of the LE Touhou figures produced by Griffon. Was lucky enogh to snag Aya.

During my absence, I’ve also been getting into a number of other things, first of all Touhou, hence the title pic of Aya, my absolute favorite character. The games themselves are really enjoyable, though I perform horrendously at them.

I like ‘Shoot the Bullet’ the most as it’s a really unique take on the shooting game genera. Aya rules.

And because of Saki, I’ve learnt to play Japanese Mahjong. Ah, the wonders of Anime. (^.^;) I highly recommend trying out the Doujin Saki Battle Mahjong game. It’s a whole lot of fun.

Looking forward, here are a number of ideas floating around in my head.

For one, people have been asking me to give them a tour of my room, so there’s one there. I also really want to do a tour of the local Anime stores of Singapore as there are a ton of awesome shops and people that I would really like to mention. Some news items like event announcements and upcoming figure

or Anime releases that grab my attention will also be posted here as well. Most importantly, more written reviews will be coming your way as well.

Yes, this screenie is from Danny... Still lazy despite constantly listening to K-On!'s ending theme... Go figure.

Speaking of event announcements. AFA09 is coming!!! WOOT!!!

I will definitely be attending this year’s event and am really, really looking forward to it. Last year’s event was a complete success and this year’s event looks like it will be even bigger and better.

The highlights are listed on their website which is up now and will be continually updated as the event date approaches, though I would probably be doing a separate post on that at a later date. Would have done one on the recent press conference, but was sadly not invited. (^.^;)

Last but not least, ANIME RECOMMENDATIONS!!! Here’s a collage of all (most) the Animes airing this season:

So, splitting them up into Fantastic, Average and Meh, here are my recommendations:

FANTASTIC: Saki, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu S2, Zan Sayonnara Zetsubou Sensei, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Princess Lover!, NEEDLESS, Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-Chan, Bakemonogatari, CANAAN.

AVERAGE: Sora no ManiMani, Umi no Monogatari, Aoi Hana, Taishou Yakyuu Musume, Yoku Wakaru Gendai Musume.

MEH: GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class, Kanamemo.

I didn’t see Element Hunters because I hate Chemistry. Nuff said. Haven’t finished Spice and Wolf Season 1, so not watching the sequel yet.

…and that’s about it for this post. Hopefully, I’ll be able to provide you guys with more of my (hopefully) interesting insights, opinions and coverages in time to come. (^.^)

    Haha its good to see I wasn’t the only one who started learning how to play Mahjong because of Saki, I still havn’t got around to playing any of the Touhou games as yet but it’s on my list of things to do, i’l check out your recomendation. Wow your room is jam packed full of stuff looks like its a tight fit =P. Will be good to see your coverage of AFA09 last years looked good and I expect this years will be better. I will agree on your anime choices but I havn’t gotten to watching the all yet i’m really enjoying Canaan it had a bit of a slow confusing start but now everything is coming together it is really good. Bakemonogatari is also another really good one I really like the story and the anime style is also really good too. Zan Sayonnara Zetsubou Sensei is also another really good one for anyone who likes the series and finally I did watch element hunters as I do like chemistry and it is actually pretty good I think.

    Saki made me learn mahjong, not that my parents are happy about it ^_^;
    And wow, your room…
    I actually watched Element Hunters Under the impression that I would pass chemistry If I watched it…

    I’ve only just realized you had this blog site posted on your Youtube account. ^^;;

    I’ve learned such a great deal about Figma figures by watching your vids. Your detailed reviews help people out a great deal.

    A tour of your local anime shops would be awesome to see. I’m sure some of the shop owners would like the publicity as well.

    Keep up the fantastic work, Actar! ^_^

  4. Guy says:

    Let’s hope you can keep the momentum and posting weekly at least :)

  5. shalala says:

    Ahhhhhhh i missss you Reviews. They are ever sooo good. ACTAR pleassssse bring out more reviews.

  6. Angelchan says:

    Fight ippatsu juuden-chan!
    Excellent?And you thought to loveru was annoying?

    I also dislike NEEDLESS!,But the rest are great espeacially canaan.

  7. Actar says:

    @ Angelchan: I suppose an explanation is in order. While To-Love Ru had annoyingly dumb characters (to me) like Lala, and had an absence of plot, Juuden-Chan has really interesting characters, good humor and the plot actually gets really, really good about half-way through the series.

  8. Q says:

    I hear more and more getting into Touhou recently, as well as Saki which got more people to play the Japanese mahjong. I don’t play mahjong but I heard that the Japanese one is more complicated than normal Chinese ones especially with the points/calculation system.

    Sounds like you’ve been watching a lot of anime; I’ve barely been able to keep up with 2-3 at a time ^^;

  9. Actar says:

    @ Q: Indeed. Japanese Mahjong requires the winning hand to have multipliers to win, but the regular one doesn’t.

    As for the Anime, not really. I’m barely keeping up and I have very little time to work on my video reviews and blog posts.

    As stated in the post, I have a ton of ideas, but just lack the time and energy to go through with them. (^.^;)

    Actar if you are getting the Aya figure, would you do a review of it on the site? I myself have recently gotten into Touhou as well I started in mid August. My favorite five characters in Touhou are Aya, Sakuya, Cirno, Reisen, and Komachi in that order. By the way did you see the Touhou doushinji anime ~A Summer Day’s Dream~ it’s pretty good.
